General Information: Copperplate Engraving - To produce a print using this process an image is first hand-cut (engraved) into the surface of a copper plate. To make a print the plate is inked, then wiped clean, so that only the incisions are left holding any ink. The image is then transferred to paper under pressure, in a press. Copperplate engraving was largely superceded by steel engraving during the early part of the 19th century. Please note that the scan below can only give a very general idea of the detail in the print.
Size:- printed area 6.50 x 4.00 inches approx.
